Jim Abbott returns home to host youth camp
     FLINT— Jim Abbott is an inspiration to us all. Born without a right hand, Abbott defeated difficult circumstances to become a top-tier Major League Baseball pitcher, playing 10 seasons for the California Angels, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers, and even threw a no-hitter for the Yankees in 1993.

Kettering hockey moves to Polar Palace
     LAPEER— Hockey fans in Lapeer may be pleased to learn that for the first time in the venue’s history, the Polar Palace will be the home for college hockey. After skating several years at Burton’s Ice Mountain Arena, the Kettering University men’s hockey team has decided to make the Polar Palace their home rink.

     BURTON — Angelina Drago already had taken a liking to Spring Arbor University on a visit to the southern Michigan school a year ago. So, when the state’s largest evangelical Christian college offered her a scholarship to play basketball there, the Faith High senior was elated.

     BASEBALL Atherton: On Tuesday, Atherton lost to Hamady in game one, 8-7, but won game two, 16-3. Cody Anderson won the second game, giving up five hits with eight strikeouts. Donovan Price came through with five hits and four RBI, while Billy Bond added four hits and four RBI.

Union Rags never could recover from the bad start. That, my horse racing friends, is the problem with a 20- horse field. A bad start and you are doomed. I thought he was the best horse in the race, but couldn't prove it.
